How To Spot A Funnel Ant

Funnel ants look like regular brown ants but can be distinguished by their cone or funnel-like mounds leading to their colony below the earth.
These mounds are formed after wet weather as the funnel ants excavate the moist dirt to dry out their nests.
The dirt is pushed upwards, creating the unsightly mounds that funnel ants are named after. Funnel ants can dig up to 2 feet deep before moving laterally and designing an intricate, complex maze underneath the soil surface.
The hollows caused by funnel ants creates an unstable surface and when left untreated, the increased pressure can cause the lawn to collapse.

Funnel ants are omnivorous and eat the proteins and natural sugars produced by plants. The funnel system created by the mounds work as a trap for bugs and beetles.
Funnel ants prey on unwitting insects, swiftly dismembering them and bringing the fallen bug back to the colony as food for larvae.
